Why do I say that? Because your body's circulation depends on your cardiovascular system. If you have all the right nutrients in your diet, get all the right supplements, enough rest, and enough exercise, without good circulation your body will still sicken and die! To quote the Creator..."The life of the flesh is in the blood". Most people think all you need to have a fit cardiovascular system is to maintain a healthy weight, and get enough exercise to be healthy . But medical research has shown it's not quite that simple. What is Cardiovasular Fitness?I can't give you a researched definition because cardiovascular fitness is rarely discussed. To learn about it, I studied cardiovascular disease. The opposite characteristics are considered fitness. So how should a healthy cardiovascular system work. The arteries seem to be the weak link in the system, so to speak, so I'll primarily discuss them. A healthy artery is made up of three layers of cells. The inner layer is called endothelial cells. They are very smooth and slippery and are designed to allow the blood to flow through your body with as little resistance as possible. The middle layer is made up of muscle cells designed to contract and relax so that the blood moves smoothly through the arteries. The outer layer is made up of cells that are designed to allow the nutrients and gasses transported through the blood to be absorbed into the tissues of the body and to pick up waste products from the tissues to be eliminated from the body. Healthy arteries are smooth and elastic. They have strong muscle tone in the second layer, and the outer layer is good at exchanging nutrients and gasses with the body's tissues. Although this isn't the sum total of cardiovascular fitness, if your arteries possess these characteristics, you aren't likely to have any serious cardiovascular problems. What causes cardiovascular disease? From what I've been able to discover in research, I didn't find a sure answer to that question. But for a better understanding of the problem, please click here to read about atherosclerosis. Can Cardiovascular Fitness be Ensured? This is truly a million dollar question. No one knows for sure.Doctors will be more than willing to start you on blood pressure medicine as soon as you have a reading they consider high, on statin drugs to lower your cholesterol, if it every comes back high, and so on. There are many problems with this approach though. Natural Supplements Improve Cardiovascular FitnessSince this is not a challenge I've faced personally, please understand that the information I'm sharing with you is based on the research I've done. But here's the problem: Until you've lost cardiovascular fitness most will take it for granted. Both my husband and I have at least one of the symptoms mentioned as a risk factor for atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disease runs in our families. So it is probable that the things we are doing to help other health challenges, have at the same time improved our cardiovascular fitness. I realize, however, that no one can prove that. Most of the supplements recommended to improve cardiovascular fitness will improve the way the inner lining of arteries work. They are:
