Different Types of Heart Disease -
Examining Our #1 Killer

Different types of heart disease can kill you. In fact there are over fifty types of heart diseases that have been diagnosed. But before you click the back button, relax, I'm not going to list them all here.

Yet I'm sure you'll have a better understanding of them by the time you've explored this page.

I'll try to give you a basic understanding of the common types of heart diseases, while providing links to pages where you can get more detailed information about them.

As we get started please understand, there are different ways of grouping these diseases. Sometimes they are grouped according to the part of the heart they affect. Other times by the thing doctors think is causing the problem.

But on this page, we'll be primarily discussing the...

Common Heart Diseases

They are:
  • Aterioslerotic heart disease -This is usually actually caused by problems in the arteries. For more information read the page I've written on atherosclerosis.
  • Chronic Heart Disease -This term simply refers to the duration of the disease rather than to its cause. Any heart disease could become chronic if the body is unable to completely heal from the disease.
  • Coronary Heart Disease -Also known as coronary artery disease, it is a narrowing of the small blood vessels providing oxygen and blood to the heart.
  • Congenital heart disease -These diseases are usually present at birth, although if slight, they may not be diagnosed until much later. The causes are usually unknown, or due to nutritional deficiencies in the mother's diet while the baby's heart was developing.
  • Hypertensive Heart Disease - This term describes heart disease that develops due to high blood pressure.
  • Inflammatory heart disease - These are heart diseases caused by inflammation. They could also be named by the part of the heart or circulatory system that is inflamed.
  • Rheumatic heart disease -These diseases of the heart are caused by rheumatic fever. Rheumatic fever sometimes causes inflammation of the heart, which frequently results in damage to one or more of the heart valves.

Types of Heart Disease

This autopsy of a Rheumatic Heart Shows the damaged valve this disease causes. Several of the common heart diseases mentioned above are not specific diseases in themselves but types of diseases.

For example, congenital heart disease is used to refer to many different heart diseases that are caused by abnormalities in the way the heart formed in the womb.

In the same way, inflammatory heart disease refers to a disease of any part of the heart that is caused by inflammation.

Additionally, one person can experience more than one type of heart disease at a time. In fact, frequently if a person starts with one type of heart disease, over time he is likely to grow worse and develop further types of heart disease, unless his body is able to truly and completely heal.

Preventing and Reversing Different Types of Heart Disease

Preventing and reversing some types of heart disease may not be possible. Some congenital heart diseases may be fixed surgically, but can't truly be prevented, at least this is what current medical science tells us.

However, many types of heart disease can be prevented, or even reversed, by the use of the right supplements.

If you'd like more information on this topic, please read the pages I've already written on cardiovascular fitness and ways to prevent heart disease.

If you're interested in further information about specific types of heart disease, click on the links in the section above to go to pages about each one specifically.

Although there are over fifty different types of heart disease, there are no more than five to seven supplements which are most

likely to help you prevent or reverse any one, or all, of them. These supplements won't "cure" heart disease. Instead they will help your body heal! However the result will be similar...

You will be well!

With that in mind, I hope you'll take the time to click on the previous links and explore the two pages mentioned above, so you don't have to struggle with heart disease but can enjoy vibrant health. That is my sincere desire for everyone who reads this page.
