Facts on Heart Disease
Vital Information

Researching facts on heart disease, will quickly reveal that heart disease is a general term that refers to many specific diseases affecting not only the heart, but also the circulatory system.

The bottom line facts are usually made up of statistics about these diseases, how many die from them in different countries, what the chances are of developing them, and what the "risk factors" for them are.

In some cases strokes are also considered a type of "heart disease" since they are caused by the same, or similar, cardiovascular challenges that cause heart attacks. This surprised me, but I can see the reasoning behind it.

Why have I classed these facts on heart disease as vital information?

Because without understanding the severity and prevalence of the problem, it is very easy to ignore until it is too late to avoid. Taking a serious look at the statistics should stop that from happening.

Facts on Heart Disease
Sobering Statistics

  • It is the leading cause of death in the US, and has been since about 1900.
  • Close to 60 million people in the US are currently suffering from some type of heart disease.
  • In 2006 heart disease was the cause of 26% of all deaths in the US. That means that for every four people who died that year, at least one died from some form of heart disease.
  • It is the top cause of death for both genders in the US. In 2006 half of heart disease deaths were women.
  • The most common type of heart disease is coronary heart disease. In 2004 almost 450,000 people died from coronary heart disease.
  • Every year over a million people will have a heart attack in the US. Of those, over a third will be having a repeat attack, with the rest suffering their first heart attack.
  • Heart Disease was projected to cost the United States 316.4 billion dollars in 2010.
  • Ethnic background does affect heart attack death rates. Those rates are highest for whites, and lowest for American Indians and Alaskan natives. Geography also affects deaths, with Mississippi having the highest rates, and Minnesota having the lowest.

These statistics were summarized from the data available on the Centers for Disease Control website.

As you can see by scanning them, heart disease is a deadly serious problem in the US, and a similar problem for most of the industrialized nations of the world, to my understanding.

Facts on Heart Disease
Risk Factors

Risk factors for heart disease fall in two classes, those that can be changed by our choices, and those that can't.
Are you're arteries at risk for atherosclerosis?

Risk factors we can't control are age, sex, race, heredity, and your own medical history.

Risks we should be able to change are:

  • being overweight
  • having high blood pressure
  • drinking alcohol
  • high blood lipid levels
  • diabetes
  • lack of exercise
  • smoking

However, changing those risk factors considered to be under our control, is often much more difficult than it would appear.

If you're overweight and hate any form of physical exercise, smoke like a chimney, and drink like a fish, you probably know it is hurting your body, and increasing your chances of having a heart attack, but you may well be entirely unwilling to change.

Besides since these "facts on heart disease" are based on the results of scientific tests, for every test that shows they may contribute to heart disease, there is another that can be interpreted differently.

So for those who don't want to change, it is easy to ignore the evidence that would convince them those changes are truly needed. And, to be fair, many of those findings are very open to interpretation, and quite controversial.

Facts on Heart Disease
Supplement for Prevention

Supplements can keep your heart healthy, or improve its health if it is already diseased. I'm sure you've heard the saying "the best defense is a good offense". When it comes to heart disease, adding supplements that enable healing and prevent the health challenges that cause heart disease is a good offense.

Supplements will provide the nutrients your body needs to maintain health if you currently have it, or to regain your health if you are already suffering from heart disease.

Which supplements are needed?

Facts on Heart Disease
No Guarantees

No one knows when his appointment with death may arrive! Can you be sure if you take these supplements you'll never have a problem with heart disease?

I wish I could tell you yes, but I'd just be lying to you...

There are no guarantees on our physical health, as these facts on heart disease remind us, but that points up our most fundamental problem...

Why is it that everyone dies, sooner or later? And is there anything that can be done about it?

There are answers to these questions, and there is hope in the face of physical death!

If you're interested please read the pages I've already written about spiritual health where I've explored these questions in detail, and provided the answers to them.

I believe physical supplements can greatly help your health, and prolong your life. They have certainly improved mine, but I don't believe I will live forever in this physical body, neither will anyone else.

We all have an appointment with death, so we all need to be prepared for that inevitable appointment.

If I only helped with the physical, but didn't share the answers to spiritual health, when I know they exist, I wouldn't be responsible, nor acting as your friend.

So I'd encourage you to explore those pages as well, and think about the answers presented there. In many ways they are the most important pages on this site, since they have eternal value.

Facts on heart disease can be depressing if you feel there is nothing you can do to protect yourself from this health challenge.

But when you understand that there are supplements that can protect and restore your health, and you deal with your spiritual health issues, you can have hope in spite of these sobering statistics.

This is my desire for each of you.
