Lower Blood Pressure Naturally
Why Bother?

You can lower blood pressure naturally by making the right supplements a part of your diet, but you may be wondering why it is worth the trouble.

After all, many people have high blood pressure today, and there are all kinds of drugs the doctors prescribe to control it.

Insurance usually covers prescriptions, but it won't cover supplements, so why not just use the prescription drugs?

There are different answers to that question, but ultimately that decision must be yours...

In my mind the reasons to avoid prescription drugs and lower blood pressure naturally are many, however I'll only share the top two with you in the interest of saving space. They are:

  • Prescription drugs are designed to alleviate the symptoms, not deal with what is causing your high blood pressure.
  • Most, if not all, prescription drugs cause health problems in other areas, as they alleviate the symptoms of the problem they were prescribed for. Therefore, the longer you use prescriptions, and the more you are taking, the worse your overall health is likely to become.

So why not just ignore high blood pressure, since it rarely causes any symptoms?

You don't want to end up needing CPR suddenly. The reason to deal with it, and lower blood pressure naturally is, the first symptom you experience may well be a health challenge so serious it will take your life, or totally rob you of any quality of life, in a few moments time.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is one of the major risk factors for heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. Any one of these health challenges can kill you almost instantly, but if it doesn't, it will frequently rob you of any quality of life for the time you manage to live while dealing with it.

Therefore, although you will probably have to pay for supplements yourself, they are well worth the investment if you value you health and independence.

The Right Supplements Usually do the Trick

You're undoubtedly wondering which supplements will best enable your body to lower blood pressure naturally...

The first supplement which will naturally lower your blood pressure is the mineral magnesium. Although we get magnesium through foods, in many industrialized countries people are no longer getting enough. The Life Extension Foundation recommends supplementing with 500 mg. throughout the day with the greatest amount taken at bedtime.

If magnesium lowers your blood pressure some, but it is still too high, the next supplement you should add is Pro-Argi9 Plus. This L-Arginine-Citruline combination supplement has been developed specifically to improve the working of your endothelium. (The endothelium are the inner lining of your blood vessels). When the endothelium don't work properly, high blood pressure usually results, and atherosclerosis and heart disease aren't usually too far behind.

Several other supplements have been demonstrated to help lower blood pressure as well. They include Omega 3 Fatty Acids (1,000 to 3,000 mg.), Resveratrol (dosage unspecified), Acetly-L-Carnitine (1,000 mg. taken twice a day), and Melatonin (2.5 to 3 mg. of a time release formula taken at bedtime).

Additionally, Stem Flo, a fairly new product developed to improve circulation by thinning the blood, providing powerful antioxidant support, and at the same time giving a gentle total body detoxification will undoubtedly help as well. Click on the preceding link for full details.

Know They're Working

Don't just assume these supplements are working, check it out since this is truly a vital health matter. It doesn't have to be difficult.

You can know whether a supplement helps your blood pressure, by getting a blood pressure kit to monitor yours at home. Then follow these simple steps:

  1. Be sure you take it regularly for a week or so before adding the supplement.
  2. Then for the following month, or two months, you should continue to monitor your pressure while using the supplement regularly.
  3. By the end of that time, if the supplement is helping, you will notice a gradual decrease in you blood pressure readings.

Keep adding supplements until your blood pressure is low enough that it can no longer threaten you with the serious health challenges we've mentioned previously.

How low is that you may ask?

The Life Extension Foundation says your blood pressure should be at 115/75, or below, to be sure it doesn't pose a health threat. Since they are a large organization dedicated to research and improving longevity, I trust their assessment on this matter, and you can too.

Don't Neglect Diet and Lifestyle Changes

The most surprising diet recommendation I gleaned from my research was to cut out wheat and cornstarch from your diet if you want to lower your blood pressure and prevent the serious health challenges that can result from it. According to Dr. William Davis in Reduce Blood Pressure--Naturally, an article in the March 2010 Life Extension Magazine,

This strategy, as unexpected as it might be to many people, is probably the most potent strategy we have employed in our heart disease prevention and reversal clinic. It is not uncommon in our clinic to see blood pressure reductions of 20-40 mmHg, along with reduction or elimination of the “need” for blood pressure-reducing medication, not to mention dramatic weight loss, correction of cholesterol distortions (reduction in triglycerides, increased HDL, decreased LDL), and reduced inflammation.

I didn't realize wheat was causing such a serious health threat to Americans in general, but if you are struggling to gain blood pressure control and other methods aren't working, I would definitely consider eliminating wheat and cornstarch for three to six months to see if the problem resolved.

Additional diet recommendations by Dr. Davis included eliminating high fructose corn syrup, most refined sugars and hydrogenated fats as well.

You may be unwilling to make these types of dietary changes immediately, because these foods are found so pervasively in our normal diet, but if you give these changes a try for even a month, your health may improve enough that you are willing to make more permanent changes.

To enjoy the greatest health benefits you would probably need to change for three to six months, but Dr. Davis's patients have apparently noticed enough changes in a month to motivate them to continue with the program.

To improve blood pressure through lifestyle changes, you will need to add regular exercise to your habits if you've been someone who always avoids exercise. But you don't need to worry about becoming an exercise nut. Moderate amounts of walking should do the trick. Stress can contribute to high blood pressure. Finally, stress contributes to high blood pressure in unknown ways. If you suspect it may be an underlying cause of yours, two other types of lifestyle changes are worthy of mention. One teaches you to synchronize your heart function with other bodily functions to reduce blood pressure naturally.

Although it sounds far out, I found the concepts fascinating. They seem to be grounded in solid scientific studies as well. If you'd like more information you can visit their website at Heart Math for more information and details.

These systems aren't cheap, but they are nothing compared to the costs of dealing with heart failure, heart attacks, or any of the other complications of hypertensive heart disease.

The second company is Resperate. They provide a unique type of biofeedback machine that teaches you to lower your blood pressure through controlled yet subconscious breathing. For more information, click on the preceding link to visit their site.

Since high blood pressure hasn't been one of my health challenges, I can't tell you for sure which of these approaches would be the most effective.

If you've used one that has been effective for you, please share with us on our share your best supplements page so others can benefit as well.

Make Prescriptions a Last Resort

Blood pressure does need to be controlled. But as you can see from the discussion above, there are many different ways to lower blood pressure naturally.

Only if you've tried all of these natural methods to lower blood pressure naturally, and nothing works, should it be necessary to go on prescription medicines.

Am I prejudiced against doctors and medicines?

Not really, but doctors themselves will tell you, every drug they prescribe has side effects, and occasionally those side effects can even be life threatening.

High blood pressure medications, without exception aren't good for your overall health.

While lowering your blood pressure they will be tending to cause further health problems in different areas.

For example the most commonly prescribed pills to control blood pressure tend to be "thiazide diuretics".

These medicines have a bad effect on your blood fat (lipid) levels, and make it more likely that you will begin to have blood sugar control problems.

So if you can control your blood pressure without resorting to prescription medications, you can avoid beginning the slippery slide down the hill toward more serious health challenges and death.
