Peri Menopause - What's Going On?

Women Wonder What's Happening When Perimenopause Hits.

Symptoms of peri menopause frequently sneak up on women while they are busy with living! Many women don't have a name for them, but they know they're happening, in fact, they are almost impossible to ignore.

However, that's still what many women try to do. It doesn't usually work very well though, because if you can ignore them, those who love you probably won't be able to.

Technically, peri menopause is a medical term meaning "right around menopause".

But in most of the research I've done, it is used synonymously with premenopause to refer to a condition that can start somewhere around a woman's early to mid thirties and continue until around the time of menopause, or after.

To further complicate the picture, many of the symptoms and problems that indicate the peri menopausal state are so common in American women that they are considered normal by many of us, and our doctors.

For a full treatment of those symptoms and their causes please visit the Peri Menopause Symptoms page I've recently written. But for an abbreviated list, read on.

What are Some of those Symptoms?

  • fibroids
  • fibrocystic breasts
  • tender breasts
  • endometriosis
  • PMS
  • difficulty in conception
  • miscarriages
  • sudden, unexplained weight gain
  • constant unexplained tiredness
  • irritability
  • depression
  • mental fog
  • memory loss
  • migraine headaches
  • cold hands and feet
  • light periods
  • heavy periods
  • irregular periods
  • bleeding in between periods

    What Causes These Symptoms?

It is at this point that things truly get interesting, or confusing, depending on how you want to look at it. If you go to your doctor, he may tell you it's all in your head and prescribe tranquilizers. Or he may suggest a hysterectomy, or want to put you on hormone replacement therapy.

Many women have tried all these suggestions and still failed to find the relief they need. Others have been unwilling to blindly follow their doctors' suggestions in these areas and begun to do more research.

No matter what category you fall in, there is help and hope. But the symptoms of peri menopause shouldn't simply be ignored!

I personally didn't realize the danger of ignoring many of these symptoms until after I was diagnosed, and treated, for breast cancer. Since that time, I've done a lot more research.

To my understanding, these symptoms are almost always caused by hormonal imbalances in our bodies. So the solution should be easy...

    Balance Your Hormones!

Writing the solution is easy, but accomplishing it is much more difficult.

Many doctors have spent their lives studying, and trying to understand, exactly how to balance a woman's hormones, and keep them balanced, as she ages.

Conventional hormone replacement therapy was one of the first attempts to accomplish this task. Since some of the symptoms listed above are symptoms of low estrogen levels, doctors thought they could fix the problem by giving women estrogen.

But the estrogen used wasn't identical to what we have in our bodies, rather it was taken from horses. It hasn't worked well, and never will.

Nonetheless, because of the money drug companies can make from it, it continues to be prescribed, and used by many unsuspecting women.

For the best way to balance your hormones naturally, please read my page on Progesterone. It is usually the missing link in the hormone balancing act.

I also provide information about the sources I used to research before writing these pages, and how you can get more information if you need it.

    Conclusion

If you're struggling with symptoms of peri menopause, don't ignore it, but don't despair.

When you find a doctor who will work with you to balance your hormone levels naturally, you can regain your physical and emotional balance. If that isn't possible, you can probably do the same thing through Internet research.

At the same time, you will protect you health in many different ways.
