Spiritual Death - The Problem We're Born With!
Spiritual Death is a problem we inherited from Adam and Eve. If you aren't familiar with the story,

So How does Their Decision Affect Us?
We are all descendants of that first couple. We are born physically alive, but spiritually dead! You're probably thinking, "I don't believe you! I don't feel dead!" Let me further explain what it means to be dead spiritually. It means that we've lost our ability to relate to God. We can no longer hear when He tries to talk to us, and if we did, it would probably scare us to death! Physically, that is. Death is an unpleasant subject, but it actually means separation. So to be spiritually dead is to be separated from God, and from the spiritual world. Just as you can't feed someone who has died their favorite food, because they aren't there, someone who is spiritually dead can't understand God or the things of the spiritual world. Perhaps a story will illustrate my meaning...
Even Those who "Have it All", Know Something is Missing!
About a year ago I was listening to an interview with a famous football player. At the time, his team was at the top of the league. If I named him, most of you would recognize his name. He has money, fame, and anything else he wants! He admitted that to the interviewer, and then he said something like this..."I don't know...it seems like there has to be something more..." Even if we achieve all our goals in this life, unless we find spiritual life we'll always realize there is something missing. Someone has said there is a hole in man's heart that only God can fill. But, naturally, none of us want God to fill that hole!
We Want to Fill it Ourselves!
But the fact is, there is nothing we can do on our own to fill that hole, and get spiritual health. God tells us that "Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God's glorious standard". In another place he tells us that "the payment for sin is death". This doesn't just mean that the worst of us are sinners, but that we are all in the same boat and have the same horrible problem of spiritual death.
In fact in another place God tells us that "All of us are dirty with sin. All the right things we have done are like filthy pieces of cloth." Notice, he doesn't say the bad things we do, but the right things we do are like filthy pieces of cloth. That is why I'm not talking about religion, because the best we can do will never bring life out of spiritual death and re-establish a relationship with God or earn His favor. In another place he says that if we keep the whole law except for one thing we are still as guilty as though we had broken it in every area! No matter how religious we may be, our religion will never make us as perfect as God is, and we would have to be completely perfect, as He is, to get spiritual health.
Is it Hopeless, then?
No, but to get spiritual health we must have help, or "supplements", from outside ourselves. Only God can help us! He didn't really have a reason to, but while we were rebelling against Him and choosing to be his enemies, He was choosing to love us. He showed that love by sending His own Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. But Jesus didn't just die for us, he conquered death and rose again to prove to everyone that He is, who He claims to be. Now that He is risen, He offers us eternal life as a gift. He says in Romans "But God gives us the free gift of life forever in Christ Jesus our Lord."
The only solution to spiritual death is God's gift of spiritual or eternal life. Please
