Spiritual Life - The Most Valuable Gift Ever Offered

Before we begin to discuss spiritual life, if you've not read about spiritual health, and spiritual death,

God's gift is more valuable than any we could picture! please click on those links to get the beginning of the story.

Since spiritual life is a gift, do we all have it?

No, the gift is offered, but it won't be yours until you accept it. To accept God's gift of everlasting life, you must:

  • realize it is found in Christ Jesus
  • realize that He is Lord
  • accept Him as Your Lord and Savior.

Romans 10:9-11 explains more about it. It says "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we declare with our mouths that we believe, and so we are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed." In verse 13 we are further assured "Anyone who calls on the Lord will be saved."

It isn't complicated or difficult, but that is why so many people refuse to accept it. They think that anything as valuable as spiritual health and life couldn't be that easy to get, nor would anyone offer it for free.

But to have this life, we have to accept what God says about it instead of trying to figure it out on our own. God says that if we receive Him (that is Jesus Christ) He will give us the power to become His children. He tells us that in John 1:12.

So is it like a Magic Formula I Say?

No, accepting means more than simply agreeing mentally that what God's Word says is true, or repeating any "magic formula".

It means to rely on Jesus Christ alone for your spiritual health knowing that your own righteousness won't do, but His will. Maybe this story will clarify what I mean...

There was a tight rope walker who came to a big city. He strung his tight rope between two sky scrapers and began to walk back and forth. He was an expert and he made it look easy. After walking back and forth several times he stopped on one side and asked the crowd that had gathered below,

"Do you think I could push a wheel barrow across the rope safely?"

They all said, "Sure you could!"

So, he took out a wheel barrow and pushed it across the rope. Then he looked down at the crowd again and asked, "Do you think I could put a person in the wheel barrow and push it across safely?"

Once again the crowd responded, "Yes, sure you could!"

So the man asked? "Who wants to come up and get in the wheel barrow?"

    Suddenly the crowd grew silent...

That is the difference between mental belief and saving faith. If you genuinely believe that Jesus can save you, that is still mental belief.

When you actually trust Him to do it, that is when you will receive the gift of eternal life.

You have to be willing to commit your eternal destiny to His keeping, just as getting in the wheel barrow in the above story would have been trusting your physical life to the tight rope walker.

    Conclusions

I hope and pray that you will accept God's gift of eternal life, if you haven't already done so. Without that gift, spiritual health is impossible because it is impossible to be healthy without life.

None of us can get spiritual life unless we receive it as God's gift to us in Christ, so we can't have spiritual health.

If you have further questions that I haven't answered. Please feel free to contact me and I'll try to be of more help. If you've accepted God's gift from reading this page, I'd love to hear from you as well.

He compares those who accept His gift to babies. Just as babies need to eat to grow physically, spiritual babies need food to grow as well. In the near future, I'll be writing more about the "supplements" we need to grow in our spiritual life.
