A Good Vitamin Supplement - Stay Young and Healthy!
The easiest way to get vitamins is to take a vitamin supplement. If you find a good multivitamin supplement that gives you most, if not all, of the recommended daily requirements for them it will also be more economical. You can take a different supplement for each vitamin your body needs, but you will be swallowing a lot of pills, and it will probably tax your budget.

Antioxidant Vitamins - Free Radical Exterminators!
Vitamin A -This vitamin is very useful to your eyes because it helps them adjust to dim light. It also helps your epithelial cells. If you don't know what epithelial cells are, they form the boundary between your body and the environment, such as skin cells. it helps these cells maintain normal structure and operations. Most sources suggest that you not take more than 5000 IU of Vitamin A per day, but you can take an unlimited amount of beta carotene which is a precursor to the vitamin. Beta carotene, an orange color found in many fruits and vegetables, is an antioxidant on its own, but if more Vitamin A is needed your body can make Vitamin A from it. Taking too much Vitamin A can be toxic to your body, but beta carotene won't be. It will be converted into Vitamin A if more is needed, otherwise it will be used or eliminated. Both Vitamin A and beta carotene are fat soluble nutrients, so your body will use them better if you take them with fat. The best way to consume these nutrients is through food, but a vitamin supplement insures you get enough. As always, it is wise to discuss plans to supplement with your doctor.
Vitamin C is probably the most well known of the vitamins. Most people also know that a lack of Vitamin C is the cause of scurvy. But that may be most of your knowledge on the subject. This vitamin is manufactured by most animals, but not by humans. If we were not able to obtain this vitamin from our food supply the race would have died out long ago. However most fruits and vegetables do contain Vitamin C, so getting enough to avoid scurvy is usually not an issue, unless you're a sailor living on hardtack and jerky. It is useful in the body to prevent free radical damage in all watery body tissues. It definitely boosts immune system function and frequently enables the body to fight off viral attacks, such as colds and flu. The government's daily recommended value is from 75 to 90 milligrams of Vitamin C a day. It also says that more than 2000 milligrams a day should not be taken. However, many scientists and researchers believe that although these recommendations will prevent scurvy, they will not provide optimum health. They believe much higher doses are best for supporting health, and are absolutely necessary for regaining health in the face of a serious health challenge. So they believe a regular vitamin supplement is necessary for optimum health. Although the best way to get Vitamin C is by eating fruits and vegetables, many health practitioners believe that health can be bettered, and aging postponed by taking a gram or two of Vitamin C in supplement form. Linus Pauling, the man who discovered the Vitamin, used from 6,000 to 18,000 milligrams a day personally, and his institute recommends 400 milligrams in a supplement form a day. As an anti-aging supplement 500 to 1000 milligrams of Vitamin C daily will likely be sufficient. If you are trying to stop coming down with a cold or the flu, try my supplement regimen. I have taken a 500 milligram tablet every time I started sneezing. (I like the kind you can chew.) Frequently, if I follow this plan for a few days, I don't get sick. If you take too much Vitamin C orally, it can result in diarrhea. Of course, if that occurs stop taking it.
Vitamin E is a very well known antioxidant too. It may help prevent heart disease and cancer, boosts the immune system, and may even help regulate blood sugar levels in diabetics. Research also indicates that it may help slow the progression of Alzheimer's. It is found in seeds, nuts, and vegetable oils. As a vitamin supplement, it is available in capsules of 100IU to 400IU, or in liquid format. The natural form of the vitamin (d-alpha tocopherol) is more effective than the synthetic kind (dl-alpha tocopherol). So when you use a vitamin supplement, be sure you get the natural kind. It costs more, but why spend anything for something that is questionably effective? The daily recommended value is only 30IU, but many doctors recommend between 100IU and 400IU a day. Vitamin E supplements should be taken with a meal containing fat for better absorption, since it is a fat soluble vitamin. If you are taking any drugs to prevent blood clots, use vitamin E supplements only under a doctor's supervision since it has a blood thinning effect.
In addition to a multivitamin supplement, I take all the antioxidant vitamins in an antioxidant supplement formula that includes antioxidant minerals and immune boosting herbs. Rather than taking each vitamin supplement separately, you will find this to be beneficial to your overall health and well being, and much more economical than buying each separately.
Although Vitamins B, D, and K are not considered antioxidant vitamins, they are definitely important in an anti-aging supplement program. If you'd like more information concerning them please visit the
