Vitiligo Skin Disease Description and Causes
Vitiligo skin disease is one of those conditions that medical science is still working to understand. For those unfamiliar with it, its classic symptoms are the loss of color in patches of skin. There are several different types, and each type might have a different cause. I say might have, because conventional medicine has yet to figure out what actually does cause vitiligo. There are several theories, but none, to my understanding, have been conclusively proven. The theories are... - it is an autoimmune disorder caused by the body attacking the skin cells that produce the skin's color
- The skin cells that produce color (melanocytes) die without reason causing the disease's patches
- it is caused by defective genes
- it is caused by a thyroid malfunction
- it is caused by some type of inflammatory condition
Although scientific studies and observation have given some support to each of these theories, conclusive evidence for any or all of them is definitely lacking. So we have to remember once more that doctors are "practicing" medicine. They don't have all the answers.
Vitiligo Skin Disease People Affected
Sources agree that only one to two percent of the population is affected by this disease. However, that statistic is world wide. Since the skin discoloration is obvious, many people have a very hard time adjusting to the condition. So although the percentages affected are small, those who have the disease are definitely looking for answers.Although you may not be personally acquainted with anyone who has this disease, you've undoubtedly had contact with some, even though you didn't recognize it at the time. The article in Wikipedia references at least ten fairly well known public figures who have the condition, but perhaps the most well known is Michael Jackson. Vitiligo is also known as the "Michael Jackson skin disease" to many. He apparently had the type of the disease that destroyed the skin's color universally all over his body.
Vitiligo Skin Disease Treatments
Conventional medical knowledge says there is no cure for vitiligo, but they also say it can be easily treated. Several different treatments are widely available. Some are fairly easily accomplished, such as using cosmetics to cover the de-pigmented patches, but others can be both difficult, time consuming, and health compromising.Since this isn't a disease I've had personal experience with, I'm going to let my readers who have this condition share with us what has worked for them.
Of course, as the scientific community doesn't know what causes the condition, they don't think anything can cure it either. But they suspect inflammation, immune system dysfunction and genetic difficulties may cause it, so I can think of a couple supplements I'd recommend sufferers try. I can't tell you they will work for sure, but I do think it would be worth taking them for six months to see if they helped. The first I'd recommend would be the super food supplement I call my top pick. It helps your body release more stem cells for hours after each dose, so whatever is affecting the melanocytes, the stem cells might be able to replace the ones that are dying or not working so the patches disappear. For all the details about this supplement, and where to get it, please check out the page I've written about it above. The second supplement is a natural Zeolites detoxifying agent. Since inflammation is frequently caused by toxic overload and there are way too many toxins in today's environment, I would try this supplement called Natural Cellular Defense to see if removing the toxic overload might enable my body to heal. You can get detailed information about it by exploring the total body cleanse page I've written earlier. Please remember, these treatment ideas aren't doctor recommended, but neither do you have to worry about toxic side effects since both are all natural products that boost your body's healing ability. Conventional treatments include: - Using cosmetics to cover patches
- For fair skinned people using sun block so no other skin tans
- using cortisone creams or creams that suppress the immune system to see if they will stop it from happening
- operating and transplanting the skin cells that cause pigmentation from other areas of the body to restore the color
- using different forms of ultra violet light, UVA or UVB to cause the color to return. The UVA treatment also includes taking a drug to make the skin more light sensitive, but using UVB doesn't need the drug treatment as well, and works quite well for some people.
- using herbal formulas
- using vitamin B-12 and folic acid with sun exposure. This treatment worked in slightly over half of the people who tried it.
Vitiligo Skin Disease Vitiligo Cure
When conventional medicine doesn't know what causes something, they don't believe there can be a cure, so you won't find much about a cure for this condition on major medical sites. But, there are herbal formulas that offer money back guarantees on the internet. Since they don't know what causes the condition, there is no way of knowing if it is cured, but apparently for many people, it does cause the color to return to the affected skin. However, I imagine you'd have to continue using the formula, or it might disappear again. In some cases it happens within a week or two, but at times it takes as much as six months. Although some wouldn't consider this a cure, for those who have the condition, it would probably be close enough to make them happy. If I were afflicted with this condition, I'd definitely try some of these formulas to see if I could find one that worked. It seems to me it would be much safer than some of the more conventional treatments. I'm hoping some of our readers will share with us anything they've found that worked for them. I'd also try the two supplements I mentioned first above to see if they enabled my body to heal. Even though the cause is unknown, more stem cells might be able to repair whatever is causing the damage, and lowering the bodies toxic load might also lower inflammation enough to enable healing, as well.
